Mark Gunn Media Inc. Reaches Out To Local Television Media To Plan A Historic Summit On Race

— This morning, Mark Gunn, Owner and President of Mark Gunn Media Inc. reached out to the General Managers of Louisville’s biggest television stations. WAVE 3, WDRB, WLKY and WHAS 11, to discuss the possibility of presenting a 4 - station simulcast. The goal being to have a much - needed and much - avoided conversation about race and racism.

“Media has always had a responsibility to operate in the public trust,” said Mark Gunn, Owner & President of Mark Gunn Media Inc., “and if we’re being completely honest, we’ve been as much a part of the problem as any other factor. This is a chance to become part of the solution and do something very rarely done in local television.”

Gunn’s vision is to have personalities from all four stations serve as moderators, asking questions about race and racism that will be submitted ahead of the broadcast by local citizens.

“I don’t see this being done in the typical way these stories are covered” Gunn says. “You know how it is. Something happens. The media trots out some “spokesperson” from the community. Protests come. Rage and repeat. We’ve seen the futility in that. This conversation needs to be real and honest while avoiding the usual talking points by the usual talking heads”.

Gunn continues, “The discussion will by driven by average people. Community Leaders, clergy and politicians will be invited, but they will not have any prominent role in speaking. For once, they will have to actually LISTEN”.

As of this release, Mark Gunn Media Inc. has already heard from three of the stations and they’ve expressed an interest in talking more about the idea. More details as they become available.
